The Hammer of Ciridin (GMT +1) (Homebrew Campaign)

GREETINGS AND BIENVENUE! Hello there! My table is looking for fresh players to add to our group as we move into the next part of our ongoing adventures. The coming adventure will serve as a resetting point for the game, and a fresh start for new players and characters to join and get to know the more established ones. Once the arc is finished, things will presumably move back to the Homestead, but the choice of what happens next or the next grand adventure depends on what the group chooses- which is how this arc started in the first place. My plan is to get everyone together and run a session zero before anything so people can be introduces, and any questions about the characters' adventures beforehand can be asked by our newcomers. I know there is always a learning curve with joining ongoing games and groups, but hopefully this will make the transition as easy as possible. The overall game has been a homestead game with a chief focus on exploration and roleplay which has been pushed mainly by player goals and wants, alongside naturally developing arcs and adventures from the world. The "homestead" itself is the frontier town of Dale, which lies just beyond the greatwood known as the Ferwood (chief setting of previous adventures) which has been home to new powers and old. Not to say there has been no adventuring- the group has travelled far into the forest and its regions, exploring fledgeling nations and contesting with the horrors of winter, and the creatures of the old magic that still haunt the dark. As for the current arc and coming adventure- after spending the winter sheltering in Dale, the company has taken up a quest of one of their companions to go and explore the ancient mountains of the Poisoned Peaks. Once a thriving Dwarf Mountainhome within the Ferwood, the peaks were assailed by the dragon known as Old Death and laid low; their holds and culture forever stained with poison. The mountains and its secrets have festered for centuries, but in recent years, a dwarven faction known as the Rockseeker Reclamation led by claimants to the old home, has begun their quest to resettle and clear out the mountainhome of the rot that has infested it; hoping to reclaim its glory and rise it high again as a power in the region. Now movement has increased, and powers turn towards the old mountains, some hoping to make something of them, and others simply to chase the treasures and riches that surely sit within the depths. 「Game Info! 👑」 Tone & Theme: Dark Fantasy, Community, Old Magic, Homestead, Exploration, Roleplay, Semi-Serious Scheduling- Sessions will be held every Saturday 2pm (GMT +1) for roughly 4-5 hours. Age- 18+ (Group ranges from mid 20s to 30s) The Group- The Crimson Company Lucius Von Vanabane- Witch (Blood)/Vessel A Wood Elf Alchemist and fledgling blood mage who hails from the mercantile elvish clan of Vanabane, Lucius suffered much in his childhood due to a cursed affliction that stole much of his health; and promised a short, pained life. He departed his home and the comforts of the capital for the chance of enjoying what freedoms he could claim, and to try and build something for himself in the frontier. He has gained much in Dale, from a new home and companions that he has come to value; but there is always a danger of losing them. He has begun harnessing his cursed blood into new and darker forms of magic, one’s that he knows will have a toil, but he does so in hopes of protecting and strengthening the bonds he has formed. Aissa of Dale- Druid (Shadows) A Half-Elf druid who spent much of her life in the wilderlands of the Ferwood and its nearby hills, Aissa has learnt much in the fashions of local wildlife and creatures. She was present and aided in the founding of Dale, and has been a presence in the village as it has grown. Since joining with the likes of Lucius and Okkram, she has had the chance to explore far deeper into the forest and explore its secrets and dark underbelly far more then she has before. She has reawakened a kinship with the forces of nature and shadows, and has found kinship with the spiders of the woods; including fostering a Great Spider now dubbed Ungursa the Kind. Aissa is a loyal and fierce companion, who has a long memory for betrayals and slights, and is more then willing to pay back disloyalty. She has proven herself open minded to the ebbs and flows of nature’s balance, and is knowable in the nature of spirits and the movements of Old Magic. Okkram of Vania- Alt Fighter (Champion) A Hobgoblin hailing from the city of Vania, Okkram once served as a mercenary for much of his life, and has had a dark history in that work. He and his company spent much of their time dealing with matters In the shadows, solving problems that got dirty and often unsavoury. He lost that family years ago, and came to Dale in hopes of settling somewhere new. His days as a soldier may have passed, but he has became a staple in Dale and within the company as their warrior. He has already suffered much due to the strings of magic and feyish trickery, but has begun to understand and unlock his connection with his gods and their power. Despite claiming that his best days are behind him, and the façade of a grumbling old veteran, Okkram is has proven to be a strong-hearted and loyal companion, who is true to his words to his own detriment. He will hold back the tide for those he has come to call friends, and aid them with all his might. The Setting! 🗺️ The Game is set in my homebrew setting I dub “The Wild Realms” in the year of 3:21 of the 2nd Era since an event known as the “Desolation” a hazy event that brought down the old world and wiped out the gods of yore. The greater region is the Northeastern Parvian, an area known for the mighty goblinoid cities ruled over by a race of near-divine figures known as the Akkad Kings; who uplifted their hobgoblin servants and founded these cities in the name of their gods, the Three Brothers. The cities battle for control over the wide lands and seek to push themselves closer to domination over the wild land about them. There are other places, from great swamps filled with worshippers of flame to dwarven holds at hold back the north. The more focused part of the setting has been the Ferwood, an ancient forest that was overtaken by the Greatwyrn known as Old Death. In centuries past, an alliance of hobgoblins and elves seeking to find a new home came together and defeated the dragon, founding the Kingdom of Aentfor. Yet time progressed, and that kingdom fell to rivals, and that unity shattered. In more recent years, and thanks chiefly due to player's involvement, a new nation known as Calenlonnd has been founded as successor to Aentfor, and is trying to grow itself and its power. Yet Old Death too was also awakened, and has re-established his command over the Ferwood as a whole, and while he allows Calenlonnd to endure, he demands tribute of valuable resources and lives; and what hope can this new land hope to thrive in the shadow of a dragon's greed. This setting is ever-evolving, and has already been radically shifted by the previous game in ways I didn’t expect. There is a lot of wild unclaimed land filled with danger and wonder, and travelling and surviving away from those bastions of civilization is a big part of the adventure. 「Themes!」 The game has already taken on some strong themes, with a distinct focus on Folklore and Old Magic, and a district undercurrent of community. The game has proven to have many interesting narratives and tones, with the implication of such dark powers and creatures of the wilds being front and centre in both the setting and in the characters. At the same time, it is my personal hope that you and your group can provide the counterbalance, bring light to a dangerous world to protect not only yourself but your homes and the friends you make. 「Responding to this University Essay」 If you are interested, and my essay hasn't scared you off, then please send me a message with the following: Tell me about yourself, where are you from? What are you interests? What makes you interested in this game? Anything you would like to share, but some basic stuff would be wanted. What do you like in D&D? How much experience do you have with the game? Are you more into combat or roleplay? What kind of Game Style do you like? What Kind of Characters do you like to play? Please note that we prefer making characters that have connections to the game and setting, as I think its important, even if none of their characters know other. So, politely, if you have a premade character with a long defined history and unmovable ideas of what they have to have and be- this may not be the game for them. It should be noted that the more you give, the more likely I am to respond depending on how small or the large the response to this is. I invite you to please give me these details, so I can get an understanding of you beforehand. After that, I will most likely give you a message, and arrange for a call between us where I can ask some questions and further convo. Once I have that, I will try to gather a group I feel is good together and what I’m looking for in this game, and then message you and arrange for you to join if so. 「Who am I? 💡」 My name is Marshall, I’m from England, and in my mid-twenties, and am subject to mistakes and miscalculations and misjudgements. I seek to learn from them. My favourite DM is Brennan Lee Mulligan for his sheer passion in his style and creative improv. I’ve run a long-term campaign to completion and several smaller adventures and one-shots as well. I strive to improve in both my storytelling, game running and table running. I personally love the more roleplay aspects of D&D, and seeing how the PCs can cause ripples that will redefine the story and world around them. No plan survives the players, but sometimes the world is enriched by their actions. I greatly enjoy worldbuilding, but I more enjoy seeing how it can be shaped by PCs, and how these stories created can cause such profound emotion and effect I am a lover of homebrew, and I love using it to further personalise characters or add an unexpected flair to the world. While I strive to be accommodating and flexible, my word is law on matters ultimately, although I invite discussion. I'm a rather silly fellow, and I confess my humour to be rather dark and morbid. I like musicals. 「What I Would Like from a Player💡」 Someone willing to get invested in the setting and help mould and define it through their stories and characters. Someone willing to be active and present in the game, preferable people who are good or willing to role-play and add to the experience. Creative people who want to be part of a fun adventure, but also are up for creating a joined story with myself and their fellow players. People who are good or at least present at taking notes and keeping track of things, and who are going to explore and ask questions and see the world. Team-Players, who are going to rock the spotlight but also be willing to share and help each other. I’d love people who really want to explore and become interwoven with all the setting information and lore and maps and all that, but I don’t expect you to know the setting guide back to front I have no opinions on your race, sex, gender, or such as long as people can be civil and polite on all counts. I judge based on the person and how they present themselves and act. Brownie points if you're an artist or creative, but that's just my DM fantasy. Ultimately, above all else, above the world and the adventures and the stories- people who want to have fun and play some D&D 「What I Expect from a Player💡」 Be polite and considerate to your fellow players and their time, and to me and mine, and such will be granted back to you. People who understand that while we strive to bring to life a world and a story, that this is a game, and is meant to be enjoyed and fun. Harassment will not be tolerated, and if things should progress, then I will ask the table to vote on whether to remove that person. I should note while I'd prefer to keep things fair, should I deem it as going too far, I will simply ask that person to leave. If any issues arrive, such as a rule dispute or a player issue, please wait until the end of the session so it can be given the proper time to talk. If it is serious, send me a message and I may call a break. On rule issues, I prefer to make a call quick and move on, after the session things can be set straight and made clear for future cases.
