Outgunned (2023)

Overview

Outgunned is a cinematic action tabletop roleplaying game about heroes in the style of 1980s and 1990s action movies, designed by Riccardo Sirignano and Simone Formicola of the Italian studio Two Little Mice, with illustrations by Daniela Giubellini.  It was funded on Kickstarter in May 2023, reaching its goal within five minutes, and won two Silver ENNIE Awards in 2024 for Best Game and Product of the Year. It was originally published in Italian and English by Two Little Mice, and since December 2024 Free League Publishing has published it worldwide under its Free League Workshop label, which covers games it did not develop in-house. The line has grown through the standalone Outgunned Superheroes and the pulp spin-off Outgunned Adventure, all built on the same dice-pool system and compatible with one another. It is a loose evolution of the matching-dice system of Broken Compass, Two Little Mice's earlier game.

Description

Players take on Heroes, each combining a Role (such as Commando, Spy or Nobody) with a Trope, a behavioral archetype such as Diehard or Cheater.  The Game Master is called the Director, and a story is framed as a season of an action series. Missions run as heists, chases, brawls and showdowns with a villain, and the game's own advice for the Director is "tools, not rules". The game wants a table that enjoys big set pieces and dramatic failures. Heroes are tough, but they run on a finite supply of energy, and when it runs out the rules push the table towards a near-death moment rather than a quiet exit.

I’m an experienced GM, have run multiyear campaigns, and I regularly run games at local conventions. Preferred Systems: Mostly not D&D or similar traditional fantasy games.  Recent games include Agon, Unknown Armies, Call of Cthulhu, Delta Green, Mothership, Pendragon, Mythic Bastionland, Alien, Blade Runner, Symbaroum, Starforged, Over the Edge, Swords of the Serpentine, and Paranoia.  But I generally enjoy learning new systems Preferred Playstyle: Narrative and investigation are my first choice. I like roleplaying heavy games where choices carry weight and the setting matters: occult conspiracy, espionage, horror, gritty sci-fi, mythic adventure. Combat is fine when it’s brief, tense, and consequential rather than a grind. Character death in earned circumstances is fine.  I'm open to romance in games if the table is bought in.  I don't need a lot of rules but I care about the rules we agree on being consistent and well understood.  I enjoy and run both traditional RPGs and GMless story games. Preferred Tone: Serious stakes with room for humor. Warm, character-driven humor or dark humor works for me; contempt-driven or goofy comedy doesn’t.   I prefer a grounded game but pulp is fine as long as we're all on the same page. I’m happy to run a one-shot when the regular GM needs a break.

Hi, I'm James from the UK. I've been playing and GMing tabletop RPGs for a long time, and I enjoy trying different systems rather than sticking with one game. As you can probably tell from my system list, my tastes are pretty broad! I've played or run everything from Savage Worlds and Dragonbane to Alien, The One Ring, Star Wars, PbtA games, Blades in the Dark and plenty of others. I'm especially interested in Outgunned right now. I enjoy games where the players actually roleplay with each other rather than everything going through the GM. I like character interaction, collaborative storytelling and giving everyone their chance in the spotlight. Combat is great too, especially when it's exciting and has some narrative weight behind it. As a GM, I'm not interested in trying to beat the players. I want to give them situations to interact with, see what they come up with and make their characters look cool while still giving them meaningful challenges. As a player, I bring the same attitude: work with the group, support other people's moments, and help move things forward. I'm UK-based and mainly play online using Foundry VTT and Discord. My availability varies depending on the game, but I'm generally looking for UK/European evening times. I'm also happy playing with people who are completely new to a system. I don't expect everyone to know every rule before we start, especially considering half the fun for me is discovering games I haven't played before.

King Arthur Pendragon 6th Edition (2024)

High-Fantasy
English
Chaosium
King Arthur Pendragon is a tabletop roleplaying game of Arthurian chivalry, tragedy, and multi-generational legacy, originally designed by Greg Stafford and first published by Chaosium in 1985. It's one of the hobby's oldest continuously-revised games, having passed through five earlier editions and several publishers (including Green Ronin's Arthaus imprint and Nocturnal Media) before returning to Chaosium, who released the 6th Edition in April 2024.  Stafford completed the design draft for this edition before his death in 2018, with longtime Pendragon line editor David Larkins overseeing it to print - a fact the game's own promotional copy leans into, framing it as the culmination of nearly forty years of Stafford's design thinking on the setting. Description Players take on knights of Arthur's Britain, sworn to a lord and bound by a code of chivalry the game asks characters - and players - to genuinely wrestle with rather than simply declare. The Game Master (GM) runs a campaign built to span decades of in-world time: between adventures, a Winter Phase resolves a knight's marriage, estate management, aging, and family events, and campaigns are explicitly designed to carry a player from their original knight's prime through old age and into playing that knight's own heir.  The game asks a lot of a table willing to commit to it - character death by old age is expected, not a failure state, and a knight's personal flaws are written onto the character sheet where they can force bad decisions at the worst possible moment. In exchange, it delivers something few other RPGs attempt: a genuinely generational campaign where a table can watch the consequences of one knight's choices land on their grandchild decades later.
