Michael
Looking for a group
About me IRL: 42 y/o male named Michael
As for my abilities and preferences: I am only superficially familiar with D&D, 3.5 or 5.0 is ok, so I may need a few pointers as we go. I am capable enough to recognize the basics. I am more in the line of a role-playing character, who wishes to supplement the group as a Bard; inspiring others, challenging others to be their best (character) selves; and offering some calm amidst the storm of adventures with tales of old. Ruthless, hyper-competitive, and domineering groups are not for me. I seek friendly, cheerful, positive, and warm compatriots to quest with.
I am open to weekends, fridays, as I am CST. I prefer to be done before midnight. I have my own computer, discord, a microphone, and capibility to adapt to a new group. Please DM me if you are either a DM, group member of an already exisiting campaign seeking a supplelemental member playing the role of a quirky romantic socialite (Dale - see below).
Here is a sample of a character I'd like to play named Dale (Human Bard):
Once an aspiring musician from the middlelands, Dale, a (now 42 year old) human family-man: was employed by a royal charter for religious ceremonies. Content with his lot, he and his wife-Aderina-bore 5 kids in 6 years. So to supplement his growing family, Dale would travel each weekend and play/perform in various pubs, county festivals, religious gatherings, and weddings. Unfortunately, and as one of Dale's children grew morbidly sick from an unknown disease; Dale was forced to exhaust all his wealth for the health of the child.
The child died tragically, leaving the family to grieve a terrible loss. Dale started drinking heavily to cope. As such, his once budding career began to fumble, and his formely loving wife-distraught by the loss of security-left town with a charming member of the thieves guild. Unable to secure future gigs (as his reputation devolved), Dale was left to scramble for a way to provide for his remaining 4 children.
A local Inn keeper - a widow named Beatrice- agreed to take on the four children, but only under the condition that Dale would have to provide the per diem, or else they (his children) would be sold into slavery. Desperate to provide, Dale did many odds and ends jobs: carpentry, convoy security, tent making, etc, and even occasional work as a scribe for a local enchanter; while also attending The College of Creation, full-time.
After 3 years of intense study, practice, and scraping by, Dale-exhausted but determined-graduated with honors from the College of Creation; and was offered a tryout for the traveling theatrical guild in a town nearly three days away from his hometown. While on route, he stopped at an Inn, and met a group of adventures whom were seeking thrill, adventure, legacy, and wealth. The latter proposition intrigued Dale:as he finally sought enough coin to eventually buy the Inn where his children reside, and turn it into a performing Arts Pub and name it after his deceased son: Jerim.
Dale even wrote a poem he performed at his funeral for his son, for whom he lives and breathes to make proud:
"Remember"
In a place so long ago
I held there, this precious cargo
A loving embrace, a beautiful face; now bereft.
How wicked is, this world which gives, then takes away so swift.
My soul is drenched, in sorrows clench, unavailed and troubled
I sing this song, everlong, praying for a miracle.
Someday soon, I will sing a song, defeat my foe
Not the one with sword and stone, but the way of laden snow
For ever was, this life of yours, I beseech to never let you go.
For more character lore on Bards see below:
Bards believe the cosmos is a work of art - the creation of the first dragons and gods. That creative work included harmonies that continue to resound through existence today, a power known as the Song of Creation. The bards of the College of Creation draw on that primeval song through dance, music, and poetry, and their teachers share this lesson: "Before the sun and the moon, there was the Song, and its music awoke the first dawn."
