Overview

SHRINES – A Dark Pilgrimage RPG is a classless dark fantasy tabletop roleplaying game about dangerous pilgrimages through wounded worlds. It combines tactical D6-pool combat, exploration, escalating threats and character growth through Domains with a strong focus on consequence, discovery and gaining knowledge. Description SHRINES – A Dark Pilgrimage RPG is a dark fantasy tabletop roleplaying game in which the players take the roles of the Marked, pilgrims bound to mysterious Shrines and sent into regions scarred by ancient wounds, broken beliefs and hostile forces. The game combines tactical combat with exploration and narrative decision-making while keeping bookkeeping deliberately light. Its core system uses pools of six-sided dice, with characters defined without traditional classes. Instead, they develop through their qualities, talents, maneuvers, equipment and Domains - powerful influences that shape abilities, vulnerabilities and interactions with the world. Shrines form the anchors of every pilgrimage. They provide safety, progression and a place to return to, because death is not the end. When a pilgrimage fails, the Marked may return to their bound Shrine, but failure still carries consequences. Lost Essence, Burden and an increasingly dangerous world ensure that reformation never makes defeat meaningless. Exploration is built around regions, locations and Instances rather than long quest lists. Players uncover Lore, discover competing factions and decide how deeply they are willing to involve themselves in conflicts that rarely offer a simple distinction between good and evil. At the same time, Regional Escalation causes the world to react to the actions and failures of the Marked, making prolonged expeditions increasingly dangerous. SHRINES is designed around the idea of fair cruelty: the world is harsh, combat can be deadly and mistakes matter, but danger is meant to be readable and consequences understandable rather than arbitrary. The game can be played with a group or as a solo pilgrimage. Its free introductory series, SHRINES: INITIATION, guides players step by step through the core ideas of the system across four connected episodes, gradually introducing exploration, combat, navigation, escalation and the consequences of failure. It leads directly into FIRST FRAGMENT, the upcoming Quickstart release, which expands SHRINES into a broader playable region with additional rules, characters, locations, monsters and a complete pilgrimage to undertake.

Key features

Dark Pilgrimage Structure

Adventures are built as dangerous pilgrimages through wounded regions, with Shrines acting as anchors, refuges and points of reformation.

Classless Character Growth

The Marked are not bound to traditional classes. Mastery deepens what they have learned, while Becoming can transform the direction of their development. Together, both systems create asymmetric progression with a wide range of possible paths, combinations and specializations.

Tactical D6-Pool Combat

Fast, readable combat built around D6 dice pools, two main actions, reactive maneuvers and escalating pressure instead of heavy bookkeeping.

Reformation Instead of Permadeath

Death can end a battle, but not necessarily the pilgrimage. The Marked return to their bound Shrine while loss, Trauma and abandoned Essence ensure that failure still matters.

Domains Shape the World

Domains influence characters, creatures, equipment, damage and supernatural effects without relying on a rigid universal type chart.

Escalation Makes the World React

Combat and regional escalation steadily increase pressure, allowing enemies, locations and entire regions to respond to the actions and failures of the Marked.

Lore Fragments Matter

Lore is more than background information. Discovering Lore Fragments reveals the history and conflicts of a region, reduces escalating pressure, ease your burden and can unlock options that would otherwise remain unavailable.

Overseer Studio

Overseer Studio is a modern, desktop based "Digital GM Screen" designed to solve the problem of browser tab bloat and fragmented software during tabletop sessions. Developed by Tom (the creator behind Astral TableTop and dddice), it is an offline first application that allows Game Masters to consolidate all their digital tools—including VTTs, PDFs, and web browsers—into a single, infinitely customizable workspace. It is currently moving through its Early Access phase in mid 2026, positioning itself as the ultimate organizational layer for the modern "hybrid" or online GM. Description Overseer Studio is not a Virtual Tabletop; rather, it is a "tool for your tools." It provides a modular canvas where a GM can embed windows for D&D Beyond, Spotify, Obsidian, and Roll20 side by side. By using a system of "tiles," GMs can create custom layouts that fit their specific workflow, switching between different "screens" with keyboard shortcuts. Because it is a local desktop application that requires no subscription or internet connection to run, it offers a level of stability and privacy that cloud based alternatives cannot match. System Overview & Key Features Infinite Modular Canvas The core of Overseer is an infinite workspace where you can place "tiles." These tiles can contain anything from a simple notepad or a PDF viewer to a fully functional web browser. You can resize, group, and tab these tiles together to create the perfect command center for your specific campaign. VTT and Tool Embedding Overseer is designed to play well with others. You can natively embed Foundry VTT, Roll20, or Owlbear Rodeo directly into your screen. This allows you to manage your map and tokens in one tile while keeping your campaign notes and creature stat blocks visible in another, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab between programs. Offline First Architecture The application runs entirely on your hardware (Windows, macOS, or Linux). This ensures that your game is never interrupted by server outages or slow internet speeds. Your data remains on your machine, giving you total ownership over your preparation materials. Pop-out Player Sharing While the software is for the GM, you can "pop out" any tile—such as a map, a piece of concept art, or a video—into a separate window. This window can then be shared via Discord or Zoom, or cast to a physical TV for in-person groups, allowing you to control exactly what the players see. Extensible Plugin SDK For power users, Overseer features a robust SDK. Extensions are built using standard web technologies (HTML/JS), allowing the community to create custom dice rollers, soundboards, or automation tools that can "talk" to each other across different tiles within the session. One Time Purchase Model In a market dominated by monthly fees, Overseer Studio is a "buy once, own forever" product. There are no account requirements or hidden subscriptions, and all future updates are included in the initial purchase price, making it a highly cost effective solution for long term GMs. Additional links overseer.studio - Official Overseer Studio website discord.gg - Official Discord for beta testing and development updates

It lets you automatically generate a single world hex at random, a single sub sector or several sub sectors, or you can import the cannon sectors from travellermap.com.  Once you have imported your sectors, you can import ships from the Shipyard and add Characters from Travellers to that ship.  Each sector has the full trade and passenger information based on the system rules.  You can give your ship credits, track your in game trades, and passengers if your table wants to automate finding trade goods, and passengers and tracking what is on your ship and how much you spend and make.  You can also use this as a mini game to travel a system trading and trying to earn a profit.  Lastly each system has a savable notes section, random tables for encounters and details about the secondary worlds. /images/general-media/1786113857_yrNMc5pe.webp Lastly check the Ops Menu for the readme for each section for more detailed information and the up to date change log.
