Kult: Divinity Lost

Horror
Rules-medium
Kult: Divinity Lost is the fourth edition of Kult, a contemporary horror RPG originally created by Gunilla Jonsson and Michael Petersén and first published in Sweden by Äventyrsspel (later Target Games) in 1991 - a game notorious enough in its day that its Italian release was reportedly banned by the Vatican.  This edition, designed by Robin Liljenberg and Petter Nallo and published by Helmgast in 2018 following a successful Kickstarter, is a ground-up reboot: entirely new rules built on a modified version of the Powered by the Apocalypse engine, and a setting updated from the 1990s to the present day. It won two ENNIE Awards in 2019 and is distributed internationally by Modiphius Entertainment.

Dune: Adventures in the Imperium (2021)

Complex
Sci-fi
Dune: Adventures in the Imperium is a tabletop roleplaying game of political intrigue, feudal warfare, and desert survival set in Frank Herbert's Dune universe, published by Modiphius Entertainment with lead designer Nathan Dowdell heading a large credited design team. It released in 2021, timed alongside Denis Villeneuve's Dune film, running on a version of Modiphius's house 2d20 System adapted specifically for the setting's politics-first, duel-heavy tone. The system is a setting-specific adaptation of Modiphius's 2d20 System, the same engine family behind Star Trek Adventures and Fallout: The Roleplaying Game. Description Players build elite agents in service to a noble House - Mentats, Swordmasters, Bene Gesserit Sisters, Spies, devious Advisors, or Fremen of the deep desert - and, before a single character is even built, the whole table designs that House together in a dedicated House-creation mini-game, deliberately keeping play away from the canon Houses Atreides or Harkonnen.  The Game Master runs missions where combat is only one of several ways a scene can go wrong: duels, skirmishes, open warfare, espionage, and courtly intrigue all resolve through the same underlying system, and a table can just as easily spend a session at a negotiating table as on a battlefield. The game leans hard into its source material's core promise - that plans, loyalty, and leverage usually matter more than a blade - and asks players to think as much about their House's long game as their character's next roll.

Achtung! Cthulhu 2d20

English
Horror
Achtung! Cthulhu is a pulpy World War II horror tabletop roleplaying game in which Allied and resistance agents fight a secret war against Nazi occultists and the Cthulhu Mythos. It was created by Chris Birch and published by Modiphius Entertainment, which launched the setting in 2012 as an adventure series for Call of Cthulhu, with versions for other systems announced. The 2d20 edition, with rules designed by Nathan Dowdell, launched on March 9, 2021, as a standalone game with a Player's Guide and a Gamemaster's Guide. The 2d20 edition replaced the earlier versions of Achtung! Cthulhu, which were written for other systems, and uses the same 2d20 system as Dune: Adventures in the Imperium. Description Players take on soldiers, spies and resistance fighters in a war where the real enemy is behind the enemy. Campaigns run from 1939 to a confrontation in Antarctica in 1946, with scenarios in places such as occupied Czechoslovakia and Dunkirk. The Gamemaster (GM) runs the war, the Black Sun cultists and the creatures they command, including undead, Deep Ones and a Shoggoth. The tone leans towards action rather than dread. The supernatural is a threat to be overcome, at least for a while, which sets it apart from the more fatalistic horror of Call of Cthulhu. The game asks for a table that wants a combat-heavy war story with a thin layer of cosmic horror.

Fallout: The Roleplaying Game (2021)

English
Sci-fi
Fallout: The Roleplaying Game is a post-apocalyptic tabletop roleplaying game set in the Fallout universe, published by Modiphius Entertainment on its 2d20 system. Modiphius acquired the Fallout licence from Bethesda in 2017 and released the wargame Fallout: Wasteland Warfare in 2018. The roleplaying game entered beta in 2019, was delayed by COVID-19, and released digitally in March 2021 and in physical form in July 2021. The core rulebook is a 438-page hardcover with an 18-page introductory adventure, "With a Bang or a Whimper". The game uses the 2d20 system, which Modiphius also uses for Achtung! Cthulhu 2d20 and Dune: Adventures in the Imperium. Description Players create survivors in 2077, after nuclear war has devastated most of the planet, and help rebuild civilization. Characters can be vault dwellers, ghouls, super mutants or robots such as Mister Handy, and they can ally with or work against factions like the Brotherhood of Steel. The Game Master (GM) runs a wasteland that mixes post-apocalyptic danger and retro-futuristic style with dark humor, and the book includes story hooks, random encounter tables and random generation of locations and loot. The game asks a table to be comfortable with survival and resource management. Radiation, crafting, building a settlement and tracking Action Points are all part of play, and the GM chapter addresses tone and quest structure.

City of Mist

English
Rules-medium
City of Mist is a noir urban fantasy tabletop roleplaying game about ordinary people who carry the soul of a legend inside them, created by Amit Moshe and published by Son of Oak Game Studio. It was funded on Kickstarter in 2016, where it raised $104,313 from 1,762 backers, and released in 2017. Modiphius Entertainment co-published it from 2018. The game was split into a Player's Guide and a Master of Ceremonies (MC) Toolkit in 2019, and a Starter Box followed in November 2020. It won a Silver ENnie in 2017, a Gold ENnie for interior art in 2018 and a Gold ENnie for Best Aid/Accessory in 2021, and in 2024 it won French awards, the Graal d'Or and the Grog d'Or. The system loosely evolved from Powered by the Apocalypse, and its spiritual successor is Legend in the Mist. Description Players take on Rifts, people whose everyday selves are joined to a mythical identity, such as a figure from legend, folklore or fairy tale, in a rain-soaked city where a hidden world of myth presses against the mundane one. The MC, the game's name for its Game Master, runs mysteries and conflicts in a noir setting, and the characters balance the lives they are trying to keep with the powers they have inherited. The game asks a table for investment in character drama. Each character has two identities that pull in different directions, and the story often turns on which one takes the lead. It suits groups who like detective stories, moral compromise and personal stakes, more than groups who want to optimise a build.
