Description

“Let no soul of Cestead call the bounty of the deep his own until he hath laboured for its recovery. Prince and pauper, clerk and captain, each shall take his appointed turn aboard the ships of scavenging; for the city is built from what the sea relinquishes, and no citizen may share in its shelter who will not first share in its gathering.” — The Admiral’s Primer, Volume IX: On Service and the Common Salvage, Verse 12.
---
When the world ended, everything changed. The series of natural disasters that shattered the land and raised the sea levels meant the nations of the world were no longer a force to reckoned with. In fact, they were no longer anything at all. The oceans of the world churned and roiled and when they finally calmed, there was no land left for civilization to stand on. But that didn’t mean there was nothing left; out in the limitless wash of water that the world had become, five ships had - through happenstance or fate - come together and lashed themselves together to ride out the storm. As time went by, other ships would find them on the sea, and join them for safety and security forming a makeshift city on the water, the last bastion of life, the final floating example of culture and society - Cestead. You’ve recently returned from your second sea scavenging mission - a full month away from your floating home - but the promise of an actual payday and more Noted status got you back on the boat as soon as the opportunity was offered to you. The law states that everyone must do their time on the Gathering Runs, but only the desperately brave, or the bravely desperate do a second; and those who do more are usually somehow both. As you disembark, and return to the Gather to receive your pay, you don’t see the person watching you carry your single bag of belongings away from the docks, as you start to smell the scents and see the sights of home that you either missed, or wanted to escape in the first place. But rest assured, they saw you, and made a decision to offer you another way to achieve your goals; whether or not you choose to meet them and take them up on their offer is entirely up to you. But here on Cestead, the quiet rarely prosper, and the taste of salt on your face is perhaps growing tiresome. Wouldn’t you like to see what you can make for yourself, or make for your family? Some offers are too good to be refused, after all….

Greetings, adventurer! We are a powerful duo of 2 DMs (one early 30s and one late 30s) looking for up to five players to join us in a long-term homebrew campaign. We welcome everyone, especially want to encourage people of color, women, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community to apply! We want our game to be a collaborative, safe and fun place for everyone involved so we intend to be very thoughtful and selective throughout the recruitment process. Absolutely no racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia or any other discriminatory behavior will be tolerated. This game is online so applicants should have a reliable internet connection and good quality mic and webcam as we intend to play with video to facilitate nonverbal communication in-game. We understand that not everyone may be comfortable with video, but we feel it’s necessary for the collaborative and connected storytelling experience that we are looking for in this campaign. We will be using D&D 5e (2014) as a ruleset, though the world and the characters are entirely homebrew - though if you have a particular love for 5.5e (2024), we are certainly willing to hear you out! Sessions will be held weekly on Wednesdays at 6:00pm CST for approximately 3.5 hours. We’ll use Roll20 for the VTT, Discord for voice/video, and D&D Beyond for character sheets (with Beyond20 browser plugin). Before applying, please ensure that you are available at this time and able to commit to attend sessions every week (exceptions for missing games occasionally due to life events, of course). While we don’t plan to include any mature content, we will only consider applicants who are at least 18+. No prior experience with D&D is necessary, but applicants should be interested in a story-driven campaign with lots of roleplay (since that’s one of the things we enjoy the most) and be willing to invest time in creating an interesting character that fits the world and supports the party. We expect players to remain in-character during sessions (bonus points for doing a character voice, but not required), avoid metagaming, and be collaborative and respectful. No min/maxers, spotlight hogs, loot hoarders, or PVP will be allowed. To be sure that you have read this far, please list your favorite magic item and why in the last question of your application. We plan to keep the application open until Monday 27th, so please be patient while we review everyone’s application. We will reach out to select applicants over Discord to arrange an interview with us. We’re planning for Session 0 to be held in August and for the campaign to officially start on Wednesday 2nd September.

Militant Exorcism

Homebrew
House rules, a custom setting, or a system the Game Master wrote themselves.
Adult
The table is for players who are 18 or over.
Hey hi hello, y'all! My name is Po and I'm looking to play a semi-historic campaign with a little fantasy elements imbued into it! The party is going to be a American military specialist unit that has been brought into the Vietnam war to combat violent and powerful spiritual entities that are attacking soldiers and civilians alike. It's inspired by Jujutsu Kaisen and will be using my own homebrew system I've developed through original techniques and cherry-picking parts I like from others I've seen. It is subject to change as the campaign develops but I'm pretty confident in it so far. You'll be starting at level 3 as you'll all be somewhat experienced soldiers before you've awaken your unique exorcist abilities. We are planning to play on Sundays at 7-10/11 PM EST but that can change if we can find a better date. I'm looking for roughly third players but I wouldn't mind a fourth if I can find one. However, I'm hoping to keep the game 18+ not due to sexual content but more as a personal rule.  So if you're interested submit an application and we can begin discussing it. If I'm willing to go further, we'll move to Discord to conduct an interview.

Cadaver Resurrected (or, the World Without Dying)

Homebrew
House rules, a custom setting, or a system the Game Master wrote themselves.
Horror
The game leans into fear, tension and dark themes.
Put the premise of 2023's Oppenheimer into the body-horror genre and add the apocalypse: welcome to this homebrew campaign! Trifling with the afterlife created a world where the dead have nowhere to go, and have nothing to separate them from the living. Desperate to survive, kingdoms across the realm have consolidated into single capitals, each self-sufficiently sustaining whole populations—until resources run low. Enter a character-driven tale teetering along political tensions, espionage, social status, omnipresent threats, and above all, control over your body! For this campaign, I’m looking for a party of 5 to 6 people (8 people maximum) interested in a continental, discovery-focused narrative. Meeting times for sessions will depend on everyone’s availability and pre-existing commitments. Discord will be used for whole-group and direct messaging. Our initial sessions will be for deep-dives into the story and worldbuilding, then for party composition and character creations; personal backstories will be developed separately, though prompts and helpful considerations will be released! This campaign uses Foundry vtt, but no costs or fees are required otherwise. This will be a horror- and dark-fantasy-based campaign that relies heavily on consequence and conflict. Obviously, death has a substantial role in this story, so players should not expect to get comfortable for too long. That said, I’m not a DM too fond of permanently killing off PCs on a whim, so let this be of some comfort! Your characters will enter the campaign through the urban and inner-city settings, where you will get a taste of the apocalyptic, survivalist lifestyle common throughout the realm. The story will begin in one of the six major capitals, each with their own agendas and allegiances and rivalries (all of which I will delineate in our initial sessions). Major themes include espionage and political conflicts (often turning into militaristic endeavors and advances), not to mention the overarching thread of escaping an afterlife spillover! Below are some concepts and terms worth familiarizing your character with: The Recrudescence—the day when the afterlife entered the material plane. The exact date is unknown, but most of the realm learned of the afterlife spillover by the end of the summer season. The Shared Sea—the body of water connecting all parts of the realm. The landmass can be visualized as a giant horseshoe or a ring, the middle of which is all water/ocean (hence, the ‘Shared’ Sea). The Storm—principal and largest (and most feared) cluster of afterlife spirits; most easily depicted as a colossal hurricane bouncing from city to city along the Shared Sea. Wandering Spirits—souls/spirits that once belonged to a deceased creature, now searching for a new host (i.e., the body of a living creature);—includes both the souls within Storm and individual or grouped Displaced. Displaced—wandering spirits not part of the Storm. Displaced spirits and the activity thereof attract other Displaced, hence why people are afraid of drawing any attention. Jumpscares—In the event that a creature dies, other adjacent creatures may undergo a jumpscare, during which their spirits (of the living creatures) eject from their host bodies as if being displaced. Jumpscares do not result from displacement, but rather from the death of a host body. For example, if a character kills one creature in a group, the rest of that group may experience jumpscares and have their spirits ejected. Every living creature has the capacity for one soul (without amalgamating, turning malignant, or ascending). A displaced can steal your body and eject your original soul, which in turn becomes displaced. Finally, wandering spirits cannot linger in place or around the creatures whose bodies they failed to assimilate!  If any of this interests you, visit the interest form below to (a) get a more thorough view of what this campaign seeks and (b) further indicate your interest in this grandiose adventure! - https://forms.gle/xn585Qo94JxRZx6F9
