The Round Table, Rotating GMs

There are no stars, only heroes! Welcome! We will be running a long-term hybrid homebrew 5e D&D campaign and writing project which will eventually be published online weekly called Pinnacle (stylized ?innacle), with two available slots open! Our five-person group is tight-knit and we are hoping for friends rather than casual players that leave right after sessions. It will be strictly done on Discord in text format Monday or Tuesday evenings from 7:30 PM - 10 PM EST. It will also be a collaborative effort, with an emphasis on player participation in both world-building and consequent lore. The campaign will be split into alternating arcs: one taking place in the past and one in the present!  We have a compendium, timeline and calendar with some guidelines on the in-game universe constructed so far along with a few requirements for applying: - Must be 25+, LGBTQIA+ inclusive  - Lives on U.S. East Coast - No use of AI tolerated - Be very comfortable with improvisation and collaboration - Engaged and committed to the experience through participation beyond during sessions - Experienced in and leans towards a more RP-heavy style - Extensive reading comprehension skills - Previous D&D experience (not a dealbreaker) - Lean towards more cerebral/thought provoking themes and clues  Perks will include tons of art of your character, printed books, shirts and more! We will be asking for a filled out form for a potential character in the campaign. To be considered, you must integrate official lore or your application will be disregarded. The more creative, the better!  Please consider the following too when creating this character:   - In a meta-sense, they will be regarded in present part of the campaign as a legendary hero in the campaign-titular guild Pinnacle. - The environment is resource-scarce due to desertification and has led to intense competitiveness and individuality. Well-knit communities not based on economic drive are rare. - The party currently consists of a tiefling bard, human cleric, half sea-genasi/half sea-elf paladin and a high-elf sorcerer. Do not try to min-max or optimize your role for the team as it’s all about the story. - Lore comes first so do not worry about stats or a character sheet yet! Upon advancing, we will be holding an additional phase where we will be doing a one-shot campaign to see how you mesh with the other players in the group and the DM style. Just sit down, learn the game, play a session and we're done! 🐣 Kid Friendly - Sablewood Messengers's only heavy themes are the inclusion of Undeads and Violence. The undeads can be easily re-skinned to something more friendly, and the combat can be quirky and silly if needed. Other than that, it's magic, fairies and songs! # In-Depth Campaign Structure Designed with beginners in mind, Sablewood Messengers is often called the Quickstart. It was released alongside Daggerheart as a free content to help players get into the game easily. It's a single session which includes explaining the game, going through two possible combats, and social encounters with a magical city and a quirky fairy grandma, with a lot of room for players and characters to interact and become closer throughout their travel. Characters are included in the module, and they have a suggestion of how they connect already included in their backgrounds, as well as questions prepared to help players strengthen these bonds. The game's rules are very simple, and can be explained within an hour. # Preparing For The Session You'll need accounts on Roll20 and Discord. No character creation needed! I'm Erick, and I have been a regular RPG player since 2015, but I've been involved in the world of RPGs and have been a fan since I was a little kid, when my brother used to GM for me. I'm a big fan of game design in general; so I also enjoy creating content and tweaking the rules as needed. I've played a few other systems, but D&D 5th Edition is my favorite by far. RPGs are my favorite hobby, and I believe they have immense narrative, rational and therapeutic value. I am happy to teach newcomers and engage with veterans alike. Although I embrace heavy themes and take the narrative itself seriously within the game, our communion as writers and players is something very light and comfortable for me. We'll use battlemaps for all scenes that include a scuffle, and mostly use theater of the mind for the rest of the scenes; although I do share the images that I use as reference for locations, when there are any. We'll use music to set the vibe as we play, as well as some sound effects, all integrated within Roll20. I got a firm grasp of the rules, and I am lax with them, trying to create a flow on scenes, without losing balance.
