Chronicles of Darkness

Overview

Chronicles of Darkness is an urban horror tabletop roleplaying game and shared rules framework, published by Onyx Path Publishing under the copyright of Paradox Interactive, that powers a family of supernatural games including Vampire: The Requiem, Werewolf: The Forsaken, Mage: The Awakening and Hunter: The Vigil. It began in 2004 as a reboot of White Wolf's

The current core rulebook is the revised edition on the Revised Storytelling System, which folds in the rules updates and some of the setting material from The God-Machine Chronicle. Critics generally saw the updated rules as a big improvement, describing them as fluid and open-ended. The system is a reboot of the original World of Darkness, and it is a separate line from the games Renegade Game Studios now publishes, such as

Description

Players take on ordinary people drawn into the supernatural, or the supernatural creatures themselves, in a modern urban setting with no metaplot. The Storyteller, the game's name for its Game Master (GM), runs a chronicle, and the setting details are optional for a campaign. Vampire clans and werewolf tribes were cut down to five each, so the lore is lighter than in the original series. There are eleven game lines in all, including Promethean: The Created, Changeling: The Lost, Geist: The Sin-Eaters, Mummy: The Curse, Demon: The Descent, Beast: The Primordial and Deviant: The Renegades. The game asks a table to take the grounded tone seriously. Opinions on the setting are divided, since some prefer the original series' grander, more fantastical scale and others the reboot's smaller one. It suits groups who like personal horror and mystery and are happy to build a chronicle from the characters' goals.

Seven Years Bad Luck

Roleplay focused
Conversation, character and story take up most of the table time.
Newbie friendly
New players are welcome, and nobody expects you to know the rules beforehand.
Do you feel sensations that you can't explain? Have you seen things that no one else seemed to notice? Have you had strange experiences that are difficult to talk about? We're here to listen The Frederick Anomalous Experiences Support Group is a confidential peer-support group for people who have experienced unusual or unexplained events in and around the Frederick, Maryland Area No judgment. No diagnosis. No explanations required. Meetings are free and confidential. Whatever is happening to you, you don't have to deal with it alone. Please reach out to Dr. Branden L. Mulligan to see about meeting times and places ------------------------------------------------------- What is ‘7-Years Bad Luck’? ‘7-Years Bad Luck’ is a Chronicle of Darkness Game designed to evolve as players play. You begin as ordinary people living in and around the Frederick area. You have all experienced weird phenomena that you can't explain and found others who have experienced similar things. Together, you are members of a small, mostly online support group where you can talk about the things no one else would believe and reassure one another that you're not going crazy. What to expect from the game? This is a character-focused game where relationships, friendships, trust, conflict, and the connections between characters matter. The story begins as a horror-thriller built around a slowly unraveling mystery. As you discover what's actually happening, those revelations may change the game's direction, its genre, and even your character. Your decisions matter, particularly early in the story. There isn't a single predetermined path through the campaign. How your character responds to what happens can open entirely different possibilities, and even death doesn't necessarily end a character's story. Expect mystery, horror, interpersonal drama, difficult decisions, strange situations, and plenty of opportunities simply to let your characters be people. What can I play? Your character can be almost any ordinary human living in or around the Frederick area. More information will follow, but they should have a life: friends, family, relationships, ambitions, mistakes, hobbies, a career, things they care about in this world. Most importantly, they should be someone you'd enjoy getting to know and playing as their life becomes. Your character begins generally unaware of the supernatural world. Occult knowledge is perfectly fine, but at the beginning it consists of things like folklore, urban legends, conspiracy theories, religious traditions, or paranormal beliefs rather than knowledge that monsters are actually real. Supernatural merits are not acceptable at character creation When and where is the game being held? Tuesdays, online through Discord

I'm Nick, I'm a 32yo male/AMAB non-binary person, with a few years of experience playing D&D 3.5, D&D 5.0, and CoC 7th. I'm a little burnt out on those (mostly D&D/high fantasy) so I'd prefer to play a different system, but I'm not against those systems if the campaign is appealing enough. I'm open-minded, intelligent, and a quick learner so picking up new systems is pretty easy for me. The systems that appeal to me the most right now are Mutants & Masterminds, Cyberpunk, Mothership, Kult, Unknown Armies, any World/Chronicles of Darkness system, or any obscure or homebrew horror system (any setting with heavy horror). My ideal group would consist of people around my age but I'll play with anyone 18+. I'm friendly and get along with pretty much everyone, and have thick skin so I don't mind banter, darker themes, or adult content. LGBTQIA+ friendly (obviously lol), female friendly, POC friendly. I'm also not going to get too antsy if we get a little derailed from play sometimes, especially with goofier groups, but I love serious play just as much. Currently looking to play weekly on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday, during evenings/nights. Saturdays are undesirable at the moment but if I really love the campaign idea I can make the time for it. I can't play Tuesday afternoons and both Wednesday and Sunday are off limits at the moment. Long term campaigns are ideal. I'm a pretty dedicated player, I rarely miss sessions. Any VTT is fine (I love Foundry), theater of the mind is also fine. I'm not a big fan of Roll20 but I'll use it if I have to lol. I have and use Discord regularly. I also would pefer not to be on cam, but I do have a webcam. However I do not want to be recorded and posted on the public internet so skip me if you're running on a stream, youtube recording, podcast, etc. Recordings for private note-taking purposes are okay but do not post them online publicly. I love creating characters (especially flawed characters) so I usually have several character ideas for multiple systems either ready-to-play or brewing, even for systems I've ever played (such as M&M 3e, Unknown Armies, Kult, etc). I'm flexible enough to stick with RAW or go full homebrew, I will always work with the DM to ensure that my character is suitable for their campaign, especially if we dive into heavy homebrew. I generally prefer not to min/max but I'm not against it, I just find flawed characters (mechanical and flavor) to be far more interesting and fun to play. I don't meta game, backseat game, rules lawyer, and I don't have main character syndrome (if anything I'm a little shy of the limelight). I can also handle bad outcomes and character death, I believe that's just part of the storytelling aspect of TTRPGs. I love roleplay, combat, exploration, puzzle solving, pretty much every aspect of TTRPGs so I'm generally comfortable with any ratio. I also sometimes to photo-manipulation/digital collage art, drawn art (digital and traditional), etc for my character, other characters, campaigns, but I'm not very good at it (yet). Usually this is for comedic effect or out of necessity. I also do art and writing outside of TTRPG play. Not interested in play-by-post or paid games, sorry.

Name: AJ Age: 32 Prounouns: She/Her/Hers Transgender lesbian, recently relocated from San Francisco to SLO. 10+ years of RPG experience, Forever GM. Looking to take a break from running game to acutally play, and preferrably something that's not 5th Ed (it's not off the table, just not my first choice). Like my games with a fairly even balance between RP and combat, canted more toward RP, push-come-to-shove. Most interested right now in "New" World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness 1st Ed (Promethean: The Created is a personal favorite), but open to most anything if the campaign premise sounds good. Have a car, willing to travel up to 40 miles if necessary. Zero tolerance for tranphobia, homophobia, racism, ableism, or any other form of bigotry.

Cunomaglos
Hello, you may call me Cunomaglos until we are better aquainted, I am 26 and Male. I have a deep passion when it comes to storytelling, mythology, folklore and naturally TTRPGs. I have 8 years, and thousands of hours of experience, as both a DM and Player. When it comes to the systems I have played, it's mostly D&D 5e and Pathfinder 2e, but I have branched out a bit more into World of Darkness 20th, Fabula Ultima, Savage Worlds, FATE, etc.  A Little More About Me: - My favorite bands are Metallica and Iron Maiden, though I also like classical, rock, ballads, historical, etc. (Favorite album is Ride the Lightning) - My favorite videogame of all time is Persona 3, having been raised on FES at an age earlier than intended and had me reading college psychology textbooks as a kid. Probably followed by Assassin's Creed 2 that I played when blind (physically)  - My favorite books of all time are Frankenstein and the Art of War, if you take it as a philosphical work rather than purely about tactics.  - I typically tend to run more Gothic Fantasy style games and characters.

Old Gold is a tabletop roleplaying game of daring exploration, creative problem-solving, and fast-paced tactical combat, in which you play as adventurers brave (or foolish) enough to delve into ruins and monster-haunted wilds for the old gold that awaits there. I hope you'll find as much joy with it as I have. Description Tabletop roleplaying games, such as Old Gold, follow a simple game loop: the Referee (or yourself, if playing solo) sets a scene, players say or do what their characters would, and the dice settle whatever is uncertain. Being a good Referee. You are a neutral arbiter. When a situation isn't covered by the rules, you make common-sense rulings. You let the story emerge from what the players do, and let the dice fall where they may. You are the eyes, ears, and nose of the players. You telegraph danger, and you reward clever thinking. Being a good Player. You ask lots of questions, take notes, draw maps. You ask what you would do, not only what your character would. You plan and work with your party. You play to win, but you're ready to lose.
