Fabula Ultima

We wanted this system in the library before we had time to write it properly, so consider this entry a placeholder. If you've got hours logged with it, we'd love your help turning this into something worth reading - reach out.

Overview

Fabula Ultima is a tabletop roleplaying game designed by Italian creator Emanuele Galletto and published by Need Games!, released first in Italian and then in an English edition in October 2022. It bills itself as a TTJRPG - a love letter to Japanese console RPGs like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, and Dragon Quest.  Built by a designer who tried reskinning other systems to capture that feeling and, failing to find one that fit, wrote his own. The game found its audience fast, taking home the Gold ENNIE for Best Game and the Silver ENNIE for Product of the Year in 2023.

This is a West Marches style Techno Fantasy campaign. Inspired by Starwars, final fantasy and, Cowboy Bebop Levels 5-25 | 18+ | 12$ a mission | availbilty every day except mondays | OVERVIEW Starbright: Frontiers is a collaborative, spacefaring West Marches campaign. It’s designed for multiple GMs and a rotating pool of players. It blends Fabula Ultima’s combat and character progression rules with Ironsworn: Starforged’s focus on exploration and emergent storytelling. Set after a century-long interstellar war, the campaign centers on a galaxy trying to rebuild. Meanwhile, a mysterious force causes entire star systems to vanish without a trace. This project aims to create a living, persistent galaxy where player choices shape the setting over time, and multiple GMs contribute to a shared narrative. GOALS Create a drop-in, drop-out campaign structure accessible to a wide player base Support multiple GMs running sessions within a shared setting Emphasize player-driven exploration and decision-making Maintain a persistent world state that evolves across sessions Blend JRPG-style storytelling with procedural, discovery-based gameplay CAMPAIGN STRUCTURE WEST MARCHES FRAMEWORK No fixed party; players form crews per session Sessions are self-contained and begin/end at a safe hub location Players initiate sessions via mission proposals The world evolves based on session outcomes SESSION DESIGN Each session will follow a consistent structure: Mission selection (player-driven) Travel and exploration Encounter(s) or objective completion Return to hub Rewards, downtime, and world updates Key Rule: Sessions must end in a stable state unless the same group continues. GM COLLABORATION MODEL To ensure consistency across multiple GMs: Establish shared setting guidelines Maintain a centralized world state document Define tone and thematic boundaries Agree on mechanical rulings and system interpretations GMs can: Introduce new locations, factions, and threats Run independent missions within the shared framework Contribute to evolving story arcs WORLD STATE MANAGEMENT A single, shared resource (Notion, Obsidian, or similar) will track: Discovered star systems Active factions and relationships Ongoing threats and mysteries Outcomes of previous sessions Available mission hooks After each session, GMs will log: Summary of events Consequences and changes New leads or unlocked content PLAYER MANAGEMENT & SCHEDULING Sessions organized via Discord Players propose missions and form groups GMs approve and schedule sessions Suggested structure: Party size: 3–5 players Session length: 3–4 hours Signup system: first-come or rotating priority PROGRESSION & BALANCE To maintain fairness across a rotating player base: Tiered play brackets Mission difficulty ratings INFORMATION SHARING Knowledge is a core progression system: Players share discoveries through logs or roleplay Maps and system data are revealed over time Discoveries can be named and recorded This encourages: Collaboration Investment Emergent storytelling TONE & THEMES Core themes include: Rebuilding after devastation Fragile peace and political tension Cosmic mystery and existential threat Hope in the face of annihilation Tone can flex between: Heroic optimism Political intrigue Cosmic horror

Izzy
I'm Izzy. 28. They/it.  I have over 10 years of experience in the tabletop space. On/off over the years with playing as finding groups that stay together takes time.  I have played in 2 completed 5e dnd campaigns that lasted over 2 years separately. Rime of the Frostmaiden & a homebrew Strahd campaign.  I will happily play in 5e & 5.5e games, though I have had an increased interest in p2fe/p2fre!  Tabletop games i have liked and played, would play again: 5e, pf2e, Vampire the Masquerade, Monster of the Week, Monsterhearts, Wanderhome, Call of Cthulhu  Tabletops I have not played but would be interested in: Blades in the Dark, Scum and Villainy, other Powered by the Apocalypse games or Forged in the Dark games, pf1e, Werewolf the Apocalypse, other World of Darkness games, Cyberpunk Red, etc etc My main goal as a player is to be a group player, to be someone that is wholly on the team with the other players! I love the collaborative nature of tabletop most, and why I always hold myself to be flexible and prioritize everyone's enjoyment and keep the table flowing! My characrer ideas are always many, but playing a characrer to the T is not a priority in the sense; that if it disrupts the flow and story of the table or conflicts wirh the group? Then I scrap that idea or develop the character different to mesh better!

Adam
Hello! ^^ My name is Adam. I've been playing D&D for some time now, having both tried 5e and 5.5e, which I'm looking forward to playing! I don't mind slight homebrews on a mechanical level and I enjoy homebrewed worlds and scenery for a campaign a lot, instead of the usual presets or manuals to run campaigns. I don't have any preferences on classes or playstyle. I enjoy playing every role as long as the DM gives me the tools I need to have fun in my role. What I am looking for is a game of D&D 5.5e to play around 8 or 9 pm (UTC +2). I have no set day to play, though I have a preference for the weekend, including Saturday. I don't mind any type of campaign from espionage to guild adventures or even thieves in search of ancient relics, though I prefer high fantasy worlds and little to no restriction around playstyles (for example, limiting magic, magic items, etc.) and, if possible, more focus on the roleplay aspect both in and out of combat without overshadowing the gameplay of it. Now for a little info drop about me! I'm a student who lives in Western Europe, simply looking to find a memorable time and party to play and have fun with! I might sound or act a little anxious or closed off at first, but if I grow comfortable, I can get extremely chatty! A part that I find very important in sessions is the music that is played. Having no music is actually a huge deal breaker for me in many situations. Lastly, I'm looking forward to meeting and talking with new people about my personal hobbies, and getting to know each other well. There is still a lot I could write, but I much prefer getting to know someone by voice and through more meaningful personal chats! Hopefully someone reading this message might think I'm a good pick for their game. If not, I still hope, reader, that in the future you will have fun rolling dice at whatever table you end up playing at, and that you have a nice day! if I caught your interest, you can message me directly on the site, or you can send me your Discord and we can keep talking there! <3
