"On that morning, marble floor of the Temple of Nyx ran skylike black with God-blood and people of Rayah dolorously shrieked in collective dread and indignation, as the eras changed..."
~"Book on gods and a trampled state" by Archmagister Lester Vash, Year 701 CE (67 years after the start of the campaign)
Welcome to the Serpent Coast, home to the people of Rayah.
A land rife with strife and ambition, where the Seven Cardinal Houses play a dangerous game for dominance, control, and survival. All of it unfolds upon land claimed by the gods themselves—gods who still walk these shores and cast their favor where they see fit.
In the far southeast lies the city of Calliope, where tensions now run dangerously high. A recent coup has deposed one of the Cardinal Houses and replaced it with another, reshaping the leadership of the city overnight. Nobles, citizens, and non-citizens alike hold their breath, waiting for the inevitable catastrophe that such upheaval invites.
And, as if by grim design, it comes.
At sunrise, in the Temple of Nyx, the demigod Lorian the Gallant, commander of the first battalion of the Crimson Wing is found dead.
Who committed this sacrilegious act?
What will it mean for the dragon-taming patrons who followed him?
How will Calliope answer for blood spilled in its sacred halls?
And how will the powers of the Serpent Coast react to the death of a demigod?
In this game you will play as demigods of high renown. You will navigate these tumultuous times and aim to stop the world from sliding into war once again, or pushing it towards it, picking sides and working towards their ends.
The mystery of Lorians murder will both serve as an introductory subject matter of the story and a catalyst for the larger story that is to follow.
The game will be relatively heavily homebrewed dnd system. Only one homebrewed race allowed to be played (it has 6 subraces so there will be veriaty). The backgrounds you will be able to chose from are also all homebrew and designed to tie you into the world.
