Fate Core

Overview

Fate Core is a generic tabletop roleplaying game system for character-driven stories in any genre, written by Fred Hicks, Rob Donoghue and Leonard Balsera among others and published by Evil Hat Productions in 2013. It is the fourth edition of Fate, a system that Hicks and Donoghue first released through a Yahoo! group in early 2003 and that Evil Hat published that summer, as a derivative of Fudge. The third edition (2006) powered Spirit of the Century and The Dresden Files Roleplaying Game. Fate Core was funded on Kickstarter, where it raised $433,365 against a $3,000 goal, and it was released under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licence (CC BY 3.0) and the Open Game License (OGL), so anyone can publish a Fate game without asking permission. The system has won multiple ENnie Awards and Indie RPG Awards. The system directly evolved from Fudge, and it has two published variants in Fate Accelerated Edition and Fate Condensed.

Description

Players take on competent protagonists defined by a few phrases about who they are, and the Game Master (GM) frames scenes in which those phrases get tested. Fate has no fixed setting, so the group first decides what kind of story it is telling, from pulp adventure to a modern urban fantasy, and builds characters to suit it. The game asks a table to talk about the fiction as much as roll for it. Players must be willing to let their own characters' flaws make trouble for them, in exchange for a resource they will spend later, and the system works best when everyone pitches in ideas. It tends to be less satisfying for groups who want a tactical simulation of weapons and gear.

Newbie friendly
New players are welcome, and nobody expects you to know the rules beforehand.
You gaze up into the mirror, and steel yourself as you open the letter. Within it, is your future - your whole self for the next 3 years. An acceptance or rejection into the College of Sylvarine. You gently pull the paper from the envelope... And smile at yourself. Welcome to Alterhearth! A Deltarune-inspired world of reflections, using the Fate TTRPG System. You and up to 4 other people will play as both monsters and humans, and explore a parallel world to Toby Fox's hit games. Expect a similar style of fantastical "Echo Worlds" [as opposed to "Dark Worlds"] divided up into themed Chapters, with a similar rich lore, fun characters and primarily narrative-based TTRPG experience as opposed to DnD 5e's combat heavy experience. However, expect also the unexpected. The same way, on release, that Deltarune shocked you as an Undertale fan - expect Alterhearth to have the same twists and turns, as well as a dark mystery at its heart... Unlike DR//, with "only one ending", or UT//, where it's "kill or be killed". Alterhearth? Only what you see can ever be real. Please DM me on Reddit or reply to this post to join! Currently undecided, but ideally we'd run from 19:00 - 23:00 GMT, + or - 2 hours. Of course, you'll need to be a big fan of Deltarune, over 18 and ideally have some previous experience with TTRPGs. Please no joke characters.

Game: Danganronpa [Fate core system] Day/Time: Wednesdays at 7.30PM CST Platforms: Roll20 for maps, and character sheets, Discord for voice. With the recent news on Danganronpa, I've been inspired to run a Danganronpa campaign again, yes again. This will be my 5th Danganronpa campaign, I've run 4 game previously to competition. I'm looking for 2-3 players. You don't need to have indepth knowledge of the games or series, just enough to understand how the killing game works. Having run Danganronpa campaigns before, the estimate runtime for the entire campaign will be 20-30 sessions depending on the party's progression. So please be committed to that estimate. Due to the mature themes and language, this will be an 18+ game. Message me on discord at : exhausteddm Name/Alias: A little about yourself: (timezone/hobbies etc) Your Ultimate: (ultimate idea that you'd like to play.)

The storyteller Narrative minimalist
Let’s go on an adventure together! I'm looking for a free, cooperative, consent-based, story-focused TTRPG table. I enjoy character-driven games with party relationships, meaningful combat, exploration, mystery, downtime, and earned emotional moments. Ideal balance: about 40% roleplay, 20% combat, 40% exploration. I like sincere games with humor, but not constant bits, edgelord behavior, or main character syndrome. I fit best with players who share spotlight, cooperate, respect boundaries, and care about everyone’s character mattering. Consent and safety are important to me. Heavy themes, PvP, romance/flirting, sexual content, intense character conflict, or major effects on another PC should be discussed first. Lines and veils should be respected. I’m in Hawaiʻi Time / UTC-10. Weekends are best, and I prefer 2–3 hour sessions. I’m open to voice, PBP, or hybrid formats. Not a good fit for bigotry, disruptive rules-lawyering, non-cooperative play, unconsented PvP/romance/sexual content, trauma dumping, or using RPGs as therapy. Message me on Discord; I’m more responsive there. Please say you saw my Groupfinder post and send a short game pitch. Discord: goldaline

Hi, am Aries but you can call me Tommy. Am a bit of an unusual player of TTRPGs due to most of my experience being Solo with Mythic Game Master Emulator. But I have played in a traditional group for about a year before the game disbanded.  Admittedly I considered sticking to just Solo play but I decided to go and find a group again. Am an introvert with some social difficulties due to autism but I think am comfortable with playing in a group now that I had practice with the first group I was a part of. While I do have copies of both DND 5E (well the player handbooks at least) I also want to try other games like Savage Worlds and Fabula Ultima. I mainly want to be a player but maybe I could be a DM one day. Seems like a lot of pressure though.

I am a ttrpg player of 6 years. Mostly in dnd, but I have experience playing PF2E, Fabula Ultima and Thirsty Sword Lesbians. Additionally I have read up a bit on most if not all of the systems I'm interested in! I enjoy finding a specific vibe for my characters, like a fighting style, a specific backstory, an aesthetic etc. I then push a system to fulfil that vibe to it's fullest, committing entirely to that bit, even to the character's detriment at times. I am also an avid heroforge user and deeply enjoy making heroforge models of all the pcs! When actually playing I try my best to use my character not just to their own end, but also to try my best within my characters personality, to empower other players. My fatal flaw is definitely my attention span, I am distracted very easiily, something I have been working to mitigate for a while, but that I'm not sure I'll ever fully ditch. I am looking for a Wednesday game that starts no later than 12am GMT (yes I know thats technically thursday xD). I also have little preference for the system.

I enjoy a good mix of tactical combat, character-driven role play, and creative problem-solving.  I'm an actor and director in local community theatre, so I enjoy a lively, active table more focused on "roll and shout" than on grinding to a halt to piece out complex mechanics.  I enjoy game universes that react to the PCs' successes and failures, and that are flexible enough to accommodate a wide variety of goals.

The World Was Young

Worldbuilding
Free
The World Was Young is a collaborative, worldbuilding card game. By marking a shared map in response to prompts with different combinations of Tones and Verbs, you build the history of a game setting over three Ages, creating lands, peoples, conflicts, and legends together. The end result is a deep setting ready to play in your favorite TTRPG system.  TWWY replaces the GM-generated, seldom-read background doc with a deck of cards and a table full of creative voices. Players and GM share the creative load, and the gap between player knowledge and character knowledge shrinks. Session Negative One Session Zero has improved TTRPGs by increasing communication between players and GMs. It helps ensure that everyone is on the same page about safety, the type of game being played, characters, and more. But it doesn’t solve a major pain point. Even if they’ve read the twenty-page setting background from the GM, players arrive at Session Zero as outsiders. The problem is that players need to create characters that are native to that world. How do we bridge that gap? How do we overcome that outsider status? The World Was Young brings players into the worldbuilding process from the beginning, increasing their investment and ownership of the setting before the game even begins. The twenty-page setting doc is replaced with an hour and a half of group worldbuilding. The result isn’t something that the players read. It’s something that they helped write. Players can weave their characters into threads they helped spin across the history of the world. Maybe their PC is the last of a civilization of Orcs destroyed hundreds of years ago. Or perhaps the descendant of a forgotten monarch. Whatever the choice, the table has an understanding of that character from the beginning. When the GM references the ancient civilization of sentient Axolotls that was destroyed a thousand years prior, she doesn’t have to lore-dump anything; the players already know about that civilization.

Drakar och Demoner

Swedish
Drakar och Demoner ("Dragons and Demons," commonly abbreviated DoD) is Sweden's first and longest-running fantasy tabletop RPG, originally published in 1982 by Äventyrsspel (later renamed Target Games) as a translation and adaptation of Chaosium's Basic Role-Playing system and its Magic World supplement. It occupies roughly the same cultural space in Sweden that Dungeons & Dragons holds in the US - not just a game many Swedish players grew up on, but effectively the game that introduced the country to the hobby before D&D had any real distribution there.  Over four decades and roughly a dozen editions, the game shifted from BRP-style percentile play to a d20-based roll-under "Expert" system, passed through several owners including RiotMinds in the 2000s, and since 2021 has belonged to Free League Publishing, who crowdfunded a reimagined 40th-anniversary edition in 2022 known internationally as Dragonbane. Designed by the team behind Mutant: Year Zero and Forbidden Lands, with art by Vaesen illustrator Johan Egerkrans, this modern edition is what's currently in print and most widely played today.
