Actual Play
The Planescape is a big place, where gods sit on their eternal thrones, watching over their followers after their death in the mundane world. Where bloody and vicious wars have raged for so long even the immortals don’t remember how they began. Where the paragons of good and evil, law and chaos, impose their will. And where an endless sea of stars flows between it all. Great epics unfold throughout the Multiverse, but this isn’t one of them...  Rolling with Difficulty is a D&D 5e actual play podcast following the adventures of the Spelljammer "Per Aspera" and her crew. Every episode Finbar, Kyana, Dani, and VR-LA travel to the far corners of the Planescape, compeleting odd jobs and errands along the way. A ragtag group of misfits, our heros are united by one thing, their ride, and they're not too concerned about how they keep it running. While the story of the Per Aspera unfolds sequentially, each episode is intended to cover a single entry in the gig-book of the crew, and therefore can be viewed in any order.  Watch along from the beginnning or jump in for a single adventure, no matter how you listen in you're sure to find our heros Rolling with Difficulty! Fantasy Name Generators

Fantasy Name Generators is the world’s largest collection of random name generators, famously created and maintained by a single developer known as Emily. Launched in 2012, the site has grown into a massive cultural pillar for tabletop gaming, featuring over 1,400 different generators ranging from traditional high fantasy races to real world historical names, pop culture references, and even abstract concepts like "evil sword names" or "inn signs." In 2025 and 2026, the site has remained the industry's "gold standard" specifically because it avoids AI generation in favor of hand-coded linguistic patterns and custom syllables. Description Fantasy Name Generators is the ultimate "anti-writer's block" tool. It is a lightweight, browser-based repository that generates 10 names at a time with a single click. What sets Emily’s site apart is its sheer granular depth; you aren't just looking for "Elf names," you are looking for Night Elf, Blood Elf, Tolkien Elf, or Pop Culture Elf names. It is highly valued for its speed and its "clean" nature—there are no accounts to create and no complex settings to tweak. Furthermore, the site is famous for its environmental focus, using its ad revenue to fund massive tree-planting initiatives. System Overview & Key Features Hand-Crafted Linguistic Patterns Unlike modern AI generators that "predict" text, Emily's tools use specific phonetic rules for each category. For example, the Dwarf generator is hard-coded to favor gravelly, consonant-heavy sounds, while the Elven generators prioritize melodic, vowel-rich patterns. This ensures that names feel like they belong to a coherent culture rather than being random gibberish. Extreme Categorization The site is divided into massive sub-sections: Fantasy, Real World, Pop Culture, Place Names, and Other. You can find names for anything from a "Post-Apocalyptic City" to a "Legendary Weapon" or even specific names for "Demon Souls" and "Lovecraftian Horrors." Real-World Cultural Accuracy The site features one of the most extensive collections of real-world names on the internet, covering hundreds of ethnic and historical groups. GMs often use these to give different regions of their world a distinct, authentic "flavor" (e.g., using Icelandic names for a northern kingdom and Swahili names for a southern trade port). Description and Prompt Generators Beyond just names, the site includes "Description Generators" for NPCs, landscapes, and even "Backstory Generators." While simple, these provide a "Mad Libs" style framework that can jumpstart a GM's creativity when they need to describe a room or a character's personality on the fly. Environmental Philanthropy A unique "meta-feature" of the site is its partnership with wildlife and forest conservation. By simply using the site, users contribute to the planting of millions of trees. As of 2026, Emily has expanded these efforts to include specific ocean cleanup and rewilding projects, making it a "feel-good" tool for the community. The "Roll For Fantasy" Sister Site Emily also maintains a companion site called Roll For Fantasy, which offers free browser-based tools for map making, dungeon building, and character sheet management, all using the same user-friendly, non-subscription philosophy. Mutants and Masterminds 3rd Edition (2010)

Green Ronin Publishing
Mutants & Masterminds is a superhero role-playing game written by Steve Kenson and published by Green Ronin Publishing. The current 3rd Edition, which also serves as the engine for the DC Adventures game, was released in 2010. It is highly flexible, point buy system that allows players to build any superpower they can come up with, from classic caped crusaders and vigilantes to cosmic entities and mystical sorcerers. The system it directly evolved from is d20 System (2000) Description Mutants & Masterminds' game mechanics use a highly modified version of the d20 System. All characters in this game, from heroes and villains to the average person on the street, are defined by eight abilities, basic traits each character has to a greater or lesser extent. Abilities tell you how strong, smart, and aware a character is, among other things. The abilities are: Strength, Stamina, Agility, Dexterity, Fighting, Intellect, Awareness, and Presence System Overview & Key Features The Single d20 Engine The system is a true d20 engine. The twenty-sided die will be the only one you will need for the rest of the game. Every roll happens with the d20 as the baseline and then various bonuses and modifiers are added or subtracted. Point Buy Character Creation There are no random rolls for character creation. Players are given a budget of Power Points based on the campaign's Power Level. Every ability, from super strength to immortality, has a specific cost per rank, enabling high amounts of character customization and forging your unique superhero (or -villain). Effects Based Power Design Instead of a list of hundreds of pre defined spells or powers, the game uses Effects. If you want a fire blast, a freezing ray, or a telekinetic shove, you simply buy the "Damage" effect and apply descriptors like "Fire" or "Cold". This allows for endless creativity in how powers are themed. The Toughness Save vs Hit Points The game completely eliminates Hit Points. When a character is hit, they must make a Toughness resistance check. Failing the check results in cumulative penalties. A minor failure causes a "Bruise" penalty to future saves, while a massive failure can result in being dazed, staggered, or instantly knocked unconscious. Power Level Caps To keep the game balanced, the Game Master sets a Power Level (PL) for the campaign. This acts as a ceiling that limits the maximum total of a character's attack bonus, damage, defenses, and skills. This prevents one player from being mathematically untouchable while others struggle to contribute. Victory Points and Heroics Players can earn Victory Points (formerly Hero Points) for roleplaying their character's complications, such as a secret identity or a specific weakness like kryptonite. These points can be spent to reroll dice, recover from injuries, or use "Power Extractions" to perform stunts they haven't officially bought yet.
