Invincible RPG

English
Rules-light
Invincible - Superhero Roleplaying is a tabletop RPG based on Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley's Invincible comic and its Prime Video animated adaptation, designed by Adam Bradford (founder of D&D Beyond) and Tomas Härenstam (Free League co-founder and lead designer of the ALIEN RPG), and published by Free League Publishing in partnership with Skybound Entertainment.  Announced in February 2025, it was funded through a Kickstarter that raised over $400,000, with a Core Rulebook and Starter Set illustrated by original series artists Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley and graphic design by Johan Nohr of Mörk Borg fame. It runs on an adaptation of Free League's Year Zero Engine, streamlined down to nothing but six-sided dice. Description Playing Invincible means stepping into the franchise's own particular flavor of superheroics: cityscape brawls, sidekicks, team-ups, alien invasions, and witty banter, all delivered without the usual plot armor. Violence is graphic and injuries genuinely last, with death often permanent unless a character has the specific power to avoid it, which keeps the stakes tense rather than routine.  Mechanically and tonally, the game leans hard into the comic's central tension - ordinary teenage life, school, and relationships colliding with a level of power handed down from, and sometimes fought against, a parent - rather than playing superheroics as a straightforward power fantasy.

Tales from the Loop

English
Rules-light
Tales from the Loop is a tabletop roleplaying game of childhood mystery and quiet sci-fi wonder, designed by Nils Hintze and published by Free League Publishing in 2017, built directly on Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag's narrative art book of the same name. It swept five Gold ENnie Awards in 2017, including Best Game and Product of the Year, and remains one of the clearest examples of a TTRPG built to capture a single, specific visual mood - Stålenhag's paintings of enormous, quietly abandoned machinery looming over ordinary Scandinavian suburbs. Description Players take on Kids - ordinary ten-to-fifteen-year-olds, built from archetypes like the Bookworm, the Jock, the Popular Kid, or the Weirdo - growing up in an alternate 1980s where a massive particle accelerator called the Loop hums beneath the countryside, filling the neighborhood with strange machines and stranger creatures nobody adult seems able to explain.  The Game Master runs Mysteries, TV-episode-style adventures staged scene by scene, where the actual danger from the Loop's technology sits right alongside completely mundane teenage Trouble - being grounded, a bully at school, a parent who won't listen. The game states its central promise plainly: Kids in this setting cannot die, which keeps stakes high through fear, loss, and consequence rather than mortality, and lets the tone stay closer to Stranger Things or E.T. than to horror.

Outgunned (2023)

Beginner-friendly
English
Outgunned is a cinematic action tabletop roleplaying game about heroes in the style of 1980s and 1990s action movies, designed by Riccardo Sirignano and Simone Formicola of the Italian studio Two Little Mice, with illustrations by Daniela Giubellini.  It was funded on Kickstarter in May 2023, reaching its goal within five minutes, and won two Silver ENNIE Awards in 2024 for Best Game and Product of the Year. It was originally published in Italian and English by Two Little Mice, and since December 2024 Free League Publishing has published it worldwide under its Free League Workshop label, which covers games it did not develop in-house. The line has grown through the standalone Outgunned Superheroes and the pulp spin-off Outgunned Adventure, all built on the same dice-pool system and compatible with one another. It is a loose evolution of the matching-dice system of Broken Compass, Two Little Mice's earlier game. Description Players take on Heroes, each combining a Role (such as Commando, Spy or Nobody) with a Trope, a behavioral archetype such as Diehard or Cheater.  The Game Master is called the Director, and a story is framed as a season of an action series. Missions run as heists, chases, brawls and showdowns with a villain, and the game's own advice for the Director is "tools, not rules". The game wants a table that enjoys big set pieces and dramatic failures. Heroes are tough, but they run on a finite supply of energy, and when it runs out the rules push the table towards a near-death moment rather than a quiet exit.

Twilight: 2000 (2021)

English
Rules-medium
Twilight: 2000 is a post-apocalyptic military tabletop roleplaying game of survival after a limited nuclear war, first published by Game Designers' Workshop (GDW) in 1984. The original was designed by Frank Chadwick, Dave Nilsen, Loren K. Wiseman and Lester W. Smith. Players usually portray American soldiers stranded in Central Europe after the Twilight War, which began as a Sino-Soviet conflict in 1995. The game received the H.G. Wells Award for Best Roleplaying Rules of 1984 at Origins 1985. The current edition, the fourth, was published by Free League Publishing in 2021 on the Year Zero Engine, and its setting options include Poland and Sweden. The system is the fourth edition of Twilight: 2000, following editions published in 1984, 1990 and 1993, and it replaced the earlier rules with the Year Zero Engine, which also runs Tales from the Loop. Description Players take on the remains of a military unit, cut off from their command and trying to get home across a ruined continent. The Game Master (GM) runs a sandbox in which the group scavenges, trades, fights and tracks supplies, and the original adventure "Escape from Kalisz" and the Free City of Krakow module sent players through Poland. The game asks a table to value survival over glory. Ammunition, fuel and food are limited and combat is dangerous, so a party has to choose its fights. It suits groups who like logistics and grim, grounded stories more than heroic action.
