BENEATH A DYING MOON
A Grimdark D&D 5e Campaign | Recruiting 2 Players
The world has fallen.
An eldritch apocalypse has left civilization in ruins, humanity on the brink of extinction, and the wastes ruled by forces beyond mortal understanding.
In the aftermath, two opposing faiths have emerged: one clinging to the remnants of the old world, the other heralding the arrival of something new.
As ancient powers stir and the boundaries of the natural world begin to unravel, you must navigate a land caught between two competing visions of its future.
In a world where salvation and damnation may look much the same, what will you choose to preserve?
ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN
Beneath a Dying Moon takes place in a homebrew grimdark setting shaped by cosmic horror, religious conflict, moral ambiguity, and the struggle for survival.
Much of the world's history, its factions, and the true nature of the apocalypse will be revealed organically throughout the campaign.
Expect a narrative-driven experience where character decisions carry weight, actions have consequences, and the distinction between good and evil is rarely straightforward.
This is intended to be a serious, immersive campaign with an emphasis on roleplay, character development, exploration, and storytelling. Combat will still play an important role, but the campaign is about more than simply defeating enemies and collecting loot.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're currently a group of three (the DM and two players) looking for two additional players to complete our party.
We're hoping to find players who:
- Enjoy serious roleplay and storytelling. You don't need to be a professional voice actor or stay in character every second, but we want players willing to engage with the world and their characters.
- Respect the tone of the setting. Humour and lighthearted moments are welcome, but constant joke characters, excessive meme behaviour, and deliberately disruptive play won't fit this campaign.
- Value character development. Characters with motivations, flaws, ambitions, and personal conflicts are encouraged.
- Understand that actions have consequences. Not every situation will have a perfect solution.
- Are cooperative and respectful. Characters may disagree or have questionable morals, but players must work together.
- Are reliable and communicative. Real life comes first, but consistent attendance and communication matter.
- Are comfortable with mature themes. Death, loss, corruption, religious fanaticism, psychological horror, and difficult moral choices may arise. Player boundaries will be discussed and respected.
You do not need extensive D&D experience to join. Newer players are welcome if they're willing to learn, participate, and take the campaign seriously.
CHARACTER CREATION
- Starting Level: 3 (everyone begins with their subclass).
- System: Official D&D 5e (2014 rules).
- Allowed Content: Official 2014-era 5e material, including official supplements and modules.
- Homebrew: No homebrew classes or races.
- Rules: Abilities, feats, spells, and other character options must follow Rules as Written (RAW).
- Required Submission: A completed character sheet (PDF preferred) and a written character backstory.
Play a character you genuinely want to play. Nobody needs to fill a specific party role or build around an ideal composition; the DM will work with the party we have.
Morally grey characters, unusual motivations, and darker concepts are welcome, provided they can function within a cooperative party. Your character doesn't need to be a hero, but should have a compelling reason to venture into a dying world.
TABLE EXPECTATIONS
1. Roleplay is encouraged, not forced. Everyone has different comfort levels, but genuine participation is expected.
2. No murderhobo or deliberately disruptive behaviour. Dark choices can fit the setting; senseless disruption at the group's expense does not.
3. No unsolicited PvP or party sabotage. Character conflict must not undermine other players' enjoyment.
4. Respect other players' moments. Give everyone room to speak, decide, and develop.
5. Accept failure and consequences. Not every encounter is meant to be won through combat.
6. Keep player knowledge separate from character knowledge. Avoid metagaming.
7. Respect the DM and fellow players. Rules discussions are fine; prolonged arguments and hostility are not.
8. Collaborative storytelling comes first. We're building a memorable story together, not competing against each other or the DM.
INTERESTED IN JOINING?
Send us a message with a little information about yourself, your experience with D&D, and the kind of character you'd like to play.
We're more interested in players who enjoy the atmosphere and storytelling we're aiming for than in the most experienced or mechanically optimized players.
The world is dying. Its gods are silent, its people are desperate, and something ancient is stirring beneath the ruins.
What will you become beneath a dying moon?
